Scott Curland Chase

Scott Chase is an independent researcher with a background in architectural design computing, and research interests in elearning, formal generative design systems, building information modelling, and virtual worlds. Dr. Chase holds degrees in Architecture from MIT and UCLA. He has worked in the fields of CAD and computer graphics development at Bechtel Civil, IBM, and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. He has been a researcher on the EDM project in product modeling at UCLA and the Technical University of Delft. Previous appointments were in Architecture, Design and Media Technology at Aalborg University, the departments of Architecture and Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management and the  Engineering Flexible Learning Centre at the University of Strathclyde, the Key Centre of Design Computing and Cognition in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Sydney, and as a National Research Council Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Dr. Chase has published papers in journals such as Design Studies, Environment and Planning B, Research in Engineering Design, International Journal of Architectural Computing, Automation in Construction, AI EDAM, ITcon, and the Journal of Mechanical Design. He has been a member of eCAADe and ACM, and is currently a member Sigma Xi and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
